BLOG - Individual Reviews

Most restaurants aren't that keen to give their customers a forum to discuss the positives and negatives of their dining experiences. However CRU in Hoxton, feedback is readily acccepted, it enables us to ensure that our goal of providing the perfect wine and dining experience is being delivered. Without a little bravery and a lot of transparency we believe nothing changes, however we do know that the good and bad can sometimes be difficult to express in the restaurant at the time, so please do use this section to share with me Brendan the manger and other customers how you found CRU and ways we can improve.

Once again, the food at Cru was amazing and with thei £15 special, the value was outstanding. I would recommend this restaurant for both a romantic dinner or a special dinner with a small group of friends. Well worth a look... top table

Cru was an excellent find. The three courses for £15 made it particularly good value and there was a diversity of choice on the set menu that is sometimes lacking in these types of offers. A fairly extensive wine list offered a good choice for all pockets. The service was attentive, polite and friendly and there was a relaxed, intimate atmosphere. Would go back.

Wanted to say what a great night i had with friends the other night on my birthday, we all sat on the big table in the bar area and shared the starter platters which went down really well, the steak was one of the best i ve had apparently organic, the house wine was lovely and not too pricey and the staff were charming, the only down side was the desert i had bread and butter pudding was stongie and hard otherwise me and the girls and boys will be back

Dear Tamara/Brendan I just wanted to write to you to let you know how wonderful my experience at Cru was. Thank you so much for helping me to organise what was a very special birthday for me. The food was absolutely excellent. The Parmesan soup was beautiful. I also loved the fluffy Fennel Risotto - cooked to perfection with the creamy fennel flavour a delightful change from the usual run of the mill risotto dishes you usually see on menus. My guests were also very impressed with the fish (which if I remember correctly was sea bass) and the organic burgers. The cake was DIVINE. Seriously, people still mention that cake to me today. They all thought it was home made (I know I should have taken the credit for it, but hey I'm an honest girl). So, please tell the chef and her team that I am extremely grateful for their efforts!! Last but not least, the service we received was brilliant. The waitress was very sweet and attentive even though I am sure we were not the easiest crowd to please. All in all, we had a fantastic evening at Cru. Thanks so much to you and your team for helping me organise this dinner across the time zones - I couldn't have made a better choice than Cru for my birthday dinner.

Went to cru on Friday, we had a really pleasant time, nice vibe and enjoyed the food. Our only criticism was the rear area, its so nice at the front with the windows open but the back feels a bit cut off, I think reservations should automatically be sat in the front area (especially in this weather) we just spent our time at the start of the meal wishing we were sat there!

Popped by cru last night, was hesitant about going as the last time we had problems. You guys really have improved, though service could be a little snappier, its a fine place,  good vibe and cool people and our food was delicious.

Just to say thank you so much for last night for such wonderful service.  It is rare that I go out in London and enjoy not just the food but the politeness and knowledge of the staff and feeling that they care.  Keep it up!  And for the rest of you make sure you enjoy a bottle or two of Alain Chatoux, Beaujolais .. so yummy and no hangover this morning must be great!

There have been a lot of nice things written about Cru and I can see why. They serve really good, quite simple, unpretentious food in a relaxing environment.

It didn’t take us long to forget about the labours of a stressful journey,  slipping into our comfortable and sociable surroundings, whilst tucking into some nicely conceived plates of food.

I went to CRU for dinner to celebrate a friends birthday and had a great evening. Food was rustic, seasonal and informal, and we matched ours with a delicious bottle of wine, it think it was Roc De Anges. Definately will return, the staff were really friendly and a nice ambience.

I went to Cru on Saturday 26th March for a friend’s birthday - the restaurant had already been recommended to me, and I can say that it definitely lived up to its recommendation!! Cru's atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, the staff were attentive and we didn't feel rushed as you can do in some other restaurants. The menu was interesting and very tasty, we really enjoyed the platter and tapas that we got to share before our main courses. Cru also had an excellent selection of wines and we had a quite a few throughout the evening!!! Cru was definitely worth the travel across London and I hope to visit again soon!!

Big thanks to Tamara for taking such good care of us all, it made my birthday all the better and made all my New York friends feel very much at home.
