CRU bar & restaurant in Hoxton opened in 2002 with the ethos of providing simple, delicious Mediterranean cooking that is organic whenever possible, to be complimented by an incredible wine list that is produced by the smaller vineyards from around the world.
As the community around us in Hoxton has developed and evolved, so, too, have we. We’re delighted to have an ongoing programme of art displays, exhibiting the work of local artists, giving them the chance to introduce their work to the wide range of customers who now reflect the diversity of the area. Local artists and gallerists, media people and others in the creative industries, young clubbers on their way out for a big night, neighbours for whom we are their ‘local’, tourists from abroad, professionals from the City – all sit side by side in the bar and restaurant as we are keen to cater for a broad range of individuals who favour quality and atmosphere above all else.
CRU is known for our excellent service in a relaxed environment, for an impeccable wine list that champions small, independent producers, and for the highest quality ingredients served up with a twist. CRU is about bringing people together over good food and wine and the menus are designed flexibly to do just that. You can order an a la carte three-course meal with prestige wine. Or you can enjoy a range of tapas-style bar food with a glass of Spanish sherry. Or you can share our popular platters of meats, fish, vegetables and cheese with a glass of Belgian beer. Or have a plate of oysters with a couple glasses of champagne. We’ve created a relaxed though buzzing atmosphere for a range of sophisticated diners of all ages and allowed them the freedom to dine flexibly. We also have a wonderful private dining room that seats 24 people.
Our head chef Kathy Goddard and wine expert Morgan Devine work closely together to ensure that the delight they taking in creating and sourcing makes CRU simply a great place to come and learn about wine, enjoy some fantastic food and simply watch local life go by.
